The
foot has two vital functions: to support the weight of
the body in standing and walking and to act as a lever
to propel the body forward.
Disorders of the Foot:
Deformities of the foot are fairly common and include
club foot, flat foot and claw foot. Another common
deformity is a bunion which is thickened bursa (fluid
filled pad) overlaying the joint at the base of the big
toe.
A number of disorders can affect the skin of the foot.
Corns can affect the skin of the foot. Corns are the
small areas of thickened skin and are usually caused by
tight-fitting shoes. Plantars warts are warts that
develop on the skin on the sole. Athletes foot a fungal
infection mainly affects the skin between the toes,
causing it to become itchy, sore and cracked.
Gout, a fairly common type of arthritis, often affects
the joint in the foot and finally ingrown toe nail.
Why
should shoes be repaired properly?
Shoe heels should be levelled when repaired so that it
is balanced when worn. If the shoes are not balanced the
person wearing them will in the future experience back
pains and pain in the joints.
Hand made shoes are made to measure, they are especially
for YOU, therefore they fit you better than when you buy
a pair of shoes in the high street shops.

Walking on unnatural hard surfaces causes our feet to
roll over excessively and arches flatten to gain ground
contact. This often results in:
-
Rubbing and friction of the toes causing callous, corn
and bunions
-
Collapsing of the forefront arch - the cuase of ball
of foot pain
-
Stretching of the ligaments in the arch resulting in
heel pain, arch pain and achilles pain.
Because our feet are the foundation of our body, poor
foot function may also lead to complaints such as knee
pain, hip pain and lower back pain.
